Costa Rica

COSTA RICA

Costa Rica has been our winter destination for 9 years now.  We have been through most areas of Costa Rica.

We fly into Liberia and you can easily rent a car there to get to your destination.   Eco Trans can also provide transportation if you choose not to hire a vehicle.

Costa Rica, over the years, has become very Americanized, which is increasing the prices to an almost unaffordable level.  Everything is in US Currency.

Hiring a car allows you the freedom to  explore difference towns and beaches such as Playas del Coco, Playa Flamingo and Tamarindo Beach.  Northern Costa Rica is less humid than the south.  We have explored both and Guanacaste is the area we prefer.

PLAYA POTRERO

Playa Potrero is where we stay.  Only minutes from Flamingo Beach, half hour to Tamarindo and Playas del Coco.

One of our favourite restaurants, Regis’,  is owned by Costa Rican’s.   A beautiful walk along the beach will get you there, as will a short drive from Playa Potrero.  It is also less costly than a lot of the Americanized restaurants.

FLAMINGO BEACH

Flamingo Beach offers great accommodations, beautiful beaches and a great restaurant right on the beach called Coco Loco’s.  Perfect place to watch the sunset and enjoy some drinks and a great meal.

PLAYA CONCHAL

Playa Conchal is one of our favourite beaches.  A portion of the beach is all shells.

Our favourite time on the beach is when the tide comes right up to the top of the beach.

PLAYAS DEL COCO

Very popular destination with a street full of great shops to purchase souvenirs, clothing etc.  One of our favourite places to go in Coco is the Z bar.  Great food and  huge marguerites  at happy hour for only $4.00 US

On our way to Playas del Coco, along the Monkey Trail, we stop at Canopy Tours and feed bananas to the Monkeys in their natural habitat, free of charge.  You can also enjoy Zip Lining.

TAMARINDO

A surf town with lots of tourists and action.  There are many shops and restaurants all along the streets of  Tamarindo.   This is a great location if you do not rent a car as walking along the beach and the streets will get you access to everything.
